Welcome to the Tax Section’s website. We are proud of its new design and functionality and hope you find it to be a useful source for information about membership, events, CLE, sponsorship and more.

I have planned an exciting year, and I look forward to seeing you at our upcoming events. We kicked the Bar year off with the Organizational Meeting at Amelia Island from July 1 to July 5. The highlight of the meeting was a Family Dinner, including dueling pianos and the unveiling of a Tax Section Chairs Cup that is engraved with names of members who have served as Chair since the Section’s 1952 inception. This special tribute to the 70th anniversary of the Tax Section is intended to be a new tradition and the cup will be displayed at all in-state Section meetings. Our Fall Meeting will take place at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Resort in Naples from Oct. 27 to Oct. 29. The Fall Meeting will include a Taxation of Real Estate Part II Seminar (with a focus on international and estate planning issues) and a docent-led tour of the spectacular Revs Institute car museum. The next stop for the Section will be New Orleans for the Directors’ Meeting from Jan. 19 to Jan. 22, 2023. Highlights of the meeting are expected to include a Directors’ Dinner at Brennan’s, past chairs CLE, and a hands-on cooking class at the New Orleans School of Cooking. The year will conclude at the legendary Don CeSar Hotel in St. Petersburg, Florida, from April 27 to April 30, 2023. Mark your calendars for that meeting, which will feature a Tax Attorney of the Year Dinner honoring two special recipients, Bill Lane (2022-2023) and Cristin Keane (2019-2020).

It should be noted that the Tax Section recently made a major contribution to the Florida estate planning community by advancing legislation to expand the use of spousal lifetime access trusts (or SLATs). The Section will continue to make a difference in all aspects of tax practice for our members and will offer numerous opportunities for speaking, writing, and comment projects. Please contact me at MBrown@comitersinger.com or any of the Directors if you would like to find out how to get more involved.
